There are upward of 23,000 students that attend UCSB. With the vast majority of those students living in Isla Vista. In addition, a large number of Santa Barbara City College students occupy Isla Vista as well. The Isla Vista housing crisis has reached a point where it affects students; financially, their safety, mental health, academic achievement, and so much more. Being a college student is difficult enough without the added burden of worrying about whether you will have a roof over your head at night.
This crisis has gotten to the point where some students are forced to live out of their cars in order to receive an education. If a change does not occur, there will be an uproar of students having to face the difficult decision on whether an education is worth the detrimental living circumstances in Isla Vista.
There is no end in sight to this crisis. In order for change and UCSB students' well being, we call upon the UCSB administration and their board of trustees to expand student housing in Isla Vista. With your signature we can raise awareness to this daunting issue in our Isla Vista community.

Fix this. Students are struggling way to much.
Living in IV is a total nightmare. Rent is insane and my apartment has black mold everywhere but management doesnt care because they know another student will just pay it. We need more options now.

it is actually crazy that people are sleeping in their cars just to go to class. ucsb needs to stop accepting so many freshmen if they cant house them.
