From 2015 only lifting belts and singlets from approved companies will be allowed for use in competition. We believe this decision is not in the best interests of lifters or the growth of the sport, and serves as nothing but a way to force lifters to buy specific equipment from specific companies as a way of making profit from these companies.
Many lifters will have already spent money on a belt not on the list, on belts that match the technical specification identically but do not have the correct logo.
Outside of the UK and Australia there is no budget option for a belt. This decision can potentially out-price a lifter from competing, negatively affecting membership numbers too.
If you feel the IPF exec should reverse this decision, please sign this petition.

We are approaching the one thousand signature threshold which will serve as our primary leverage point when we present the formal grievance to the IPF executive committee. I need everyone to distribute this link to their local lifting clubs today to ensure we cross that mark before we finalize the petition delivery dossier.

Forcing a majority of the lifters in the federation to pointlessly invest in new lifting equipment is NOT in the greater good of the sport. The reason that classic lifting, at least here in Sweden, is growing rapidly is that it's accessible and fun, let's keep it that way.
What a joke. My belt of 25 years which has met specifications at many IPF events is no longer legal because it doesn't have the correct logo on it. I bet the other lifting federations are rubbing their hands together with the prospect of increased membership.
My son is just 18 and has Autism. We have spent 2 years kitting him out and he is breaking records and doing great but it's hard because we don't have much money. To now be told we have to buy new stuff will possibly end his powerlifting dreams!! This is wrong and unfair!
This change only serves to make it more difficult to bring new lifters into the sport. It also makes it more difficult for young high school lifters to get into it as they often use that old wrestling singlet and the old belt from their high school gym.
I am at uni and saved for weeks to float the $100 neccesary for a belt, and don't have enough money to do that again. I understand from a technical stanooint it could make the most minute of differences, but ffs, this is mostly money making bullshit and hurts the sport.
This is not helpful to the sport at all, me being in a 3rd world country cannot afford the specific brands that they approved!
The name on the belt or who made it should have nothing to do with whether it should be able to be used in an IPF competition. Requiring money to be paid to be put onto an approved list is just complete nonsense. Measure the belts and approve them if they meet the correct size allowed, but money should never have to pass between hands for a person to use his or her equipment to compete.

I've spent close to $200 on two belts I use for competition. With this rule neither of them would be allowed simply because of the brand. One is a 3" belt, a size not even offered by any of the approved manufacturers so I wouldn't have any way of replacing it.
