In light of the coronavirus many university students are still being asked to take online exams and are still expected to write essays without any extentions. Are you one of these students or do you know anyone that is? It's time to make educational institutions aware that many students are feeling pressured and top of that some of us are becoming ill but are unable to provide sufficient evidence of our conditions due to closure of GPs across the nation.
Many of us believe its unfair that most of the educational institutions have chosen to cancel examinations and allow their to students to progress to next academic year such as A-levels and GCSEs. However this is not this case for universities. Although, due to the corona virus, all exams and tests have been allocated online, this is still an inconvenience to many students as there many factors that can affect our performance during these exams.
The whole point of exams is to do it under certain conditions that allows students to have equal opportunities to perform to the best of our abilities. Unfortunately, given the circumstances of COVID-19, not all students have the privilege to recreate these conditions at home and therefore it can have an impact on their performance and their grades.
As many international students have been sent home, we as students have limited access to resources such as textbooks, Internet, equipment such as laptops etc. This causes further disadvantages for students to take exams.
Some institutions such as Nottingham University and Leeds University have decided to let their first year students automatically pass to second year. However we want students from all years to be given the same opportunity. Those who are in their final year, should be given the option to sit exams this September instead of sitting it this summer during quarantine as this can impact their performance and mental health, and at a time like this, our nation could do with less pressure and health issues.
It is time for us to take matters into our own hands and show them that we are also affected by the corona virus whether it is an illness or unable to study due to our environmental conditions. Although education is important, our health comes first!
We demand that all UK universities give us a pass to progress to the next academic year and cancel summer exams. Sign our petition to put an end to immense pressure from universities during quarantine.
The feedback from students across various universities confirms that the current examination policies are creating significant inequities. I am currently compiling these experiences to present a formal request for academic flexibility to the university administration.

The momentum behind this petition highlights how many of you face the same systemic obstacles during this period of uncertainty. It is clear that the current approach to academic assessments does not account for the limitations imposed upon students at home.

PLEASE give us an extension. I have been sick for two weeks and my local doctors office is closed so I have zero proof for the university. I just want to finish my degree.

Living at home with 5 people and trying to write a dissertation is literally impossible. My wifi cuts out every hour and the uni expects us to just get on with it like everything is normal.

The pandemic is hitting us all but it's definitely having a massive hit on university students... I hope this petition reaches others and makes a positive change

Protect the mental health of students We are in uncertain/unstable times and being forced to concentrate on taxing work while worrying about what's going on around us is bad for our mental health.

Well written. You've made some good points there.
I'm singing this petition because there are a lot of environmental as well as health factors that are affecting our studies. Online lessons are not the same as face-to-face lessons. There are many distractions in the home and as a counselling student, I am not having a genuine person centred experience online. The corona virus is a difficult time as it is. This added stress is not helping.
