Be it be recorded that The People of New Smyrna Beach Florida strongly request the installation and use of audio and video recording equipment be a permanent part of new City Commision Chambers. In accord with State of Florida Sunshine Ordinance chapter 286 of Florida Statues. As we are the last city in Volusia County to Not have this capability and a video permanent record of meetings of Commission and the various Boards associated to governance of New Smyrna Beach.
I have spent my evenings reading the comments you all are leaving and they confirm that transparency is not just an ideal but a requirement for our city. Meetings are happening behind closed doors that affect our daily lives and we deserve to see the faces and hear the voices of the people making those decisions.

Seeing this level of support confirms that my neighbors are just as tired of the secrecy as I am. It is time for our local government to step into the light and finally join the rest of the county in basic transparency.

Yes, transparency is needed as NSB faces more and more development. Need an accurate recording of what is said and promised.

Absolutely! Additionally, they should stream it live and make each meeting also available on demand.

A lot of Cities have this in place now.
Port Orange, Deltona, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, Ponce Inlet just to mention a few. On live TV Spectrum around the 500 and up channels. The cities then replay these several times a month just in case you missed seeing the meeting live.
Thanks
I'm for this, everything is public record so whats the big deal have it installed. This is how you keep the people informed on whats going on in the city.

The city should also provide live broadcast via the current cable franchisee as provided for in the contract and as has been done in Port Orange for the several years.

NSB must come into the 21st century and allow citizens to view their proceedings. Otherwise, what is left is hidden agendas.

Meetings need to be recorded and videoed to solve any possible misunderstandings between the elected and the public.
