The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage is home to youth programs, learn-to-skate and adult leagues serving thousands of players across Long Island but it has no video system. For months, members of the Long Island Hockey League have formally asked the Town to install LiveBarn, a subscription-based camera system that automatically records and livestreams games and practices. Each time, we’ve been told the request is “being passed along.” Nothing has happened.
LiveBarn is installed at rinks across the country. The cost is carried by user subscriptions, players, coaches and parents pay for their own access, not by the Town or taxpayers. This is a low-cost, high-value upgrade to a public facility.
Who benefits:
• Every kid in a youth program whose parents can’t make a weekday game
• Beginners and adult league players who want to review their own play and improve
• Referees and leagues, who gain an objective video record that settles disputed calls fairly
• The Town itself, which gets a more attractive, modern facility at essentially no cost
We, the undersigned, rink users, league members, parents, and Town of Oyster Bay residents, respectfully ask the Town Board to approve and facilitate the installation of LiveBarn at the Bethpage rink, and to provide a substantive response and timeline.
We will be presenting this petition in person at Town Hall on July 14, 2026.

We Showed Up — Town Board Heard Us
July 16, 2026
Wednesday morning, 7/14/2026, LIHL members showed up in person at the Town of Oyster Bay Board Meeting to formally push for LiveBarn at the Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center and it helped make a difference. We had 11 members representing the league in that room. Before the meeting even started, Town Commissioner of Public Safety James McCaffery pulled us aside for a direct conversation. We addressed the communication breakdowns, corrected the record on how long this request has been coming in — years, not months — and spoke to the privacy concerns the town had raised. The headline from that conversation: the town expects to approve this in the near future. Jim’s words, they just want to “dot their i’s and cross their t’s.” When it was our turn at the podium, our representative stepped up as a town resident and laid out the full case; clearly, calmly, and on the record. No pushback. No follow-up questions. Supervisor Saladino and the board were in the room and we’d like to believe, listening. We had the final word of the night. We also had the pleasure of meeting Bernard “Buzz” Deschamps, being recognized at the meeting for his induction into the NYS Hockey Hall of Fame. Buzz is a strong advocate for Long Island hockey and fully supports getting LiveBarn installed. A genuinely great night on multiple fronts. 209 of you signed this petition. That matters. We brought that energy into that room. We’re not done, we keep the pressure on until the cameras are live. Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, and shown up. 🏒

lihl and dozens of other leagues play hockey here very often, it’s disappointing that this is the only rink that doesn’t offer live barn
I run and operate Long Island Hockey League and we use LiveBarn footage for disciplinary action, stat correcting and to help improve officiating at games. Town of Oysterbay not having LiveBarn is making our game more dangerous because players are aware there is no LiveBarn and will act more often out of character than at other facilities. By not having LiveBarn, the town is indirectly encouraging poor on ice behavior. Not only will LiveBarn help us, it also helps the town.
This is the rink I grew up in. I went to HS across the street. I learned how to skate here and now i get to play in the LIHL here. My first goal was here and I can't even get a video of it because there's no cameras. It would be great to change that.
as a resident who regularly uses the rink for recreational ice hockey, having video available to review after incidents occur is an absolute must. it holds all players, officials, leagues and guests accountable for their actions. in the past i have personally experienced altercations at bethpage where players know there aren’t any cameras and punishments won’t be enforced without video backup. the officials are outstanding, but they can’t be everywhere and see everything. cameras are deterrence.
I live in DC and my dad plays in LIHL and I want to watch him play!
How are they the only rink on Long Island without livebarn??
So that kids and grown ups can watch and see there mistakes as well as their. Goals. Like a learning. Device

My son plays high school hockey at that rink and there are times I cannot be there to watch him in person and I would love to be able to watch him on livebarn
