Update: Westfield Chermside responded and have communicated that something is currently in the works.

Their reply: Hi there, you don’t need a petition - we couldn’t agree more! You’ll be pleased to know that plans are already in place for the installation of an indoor play area at Chermside. We are currently in the safety and design stage and will be able to provide an update once approved as to the expected launch date. Kindest, Westfield Chermside

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SIGNED THE PETITION. I really look forward to bumping into some of you when the new play area is up!

As a mother living in the Chermside area, I feel there is a need for an indoor play area that caters to crawling bubs to young school aged children at Westfield Chermside.

The outdoor play area in the eating area is not suitable for all ages, especially little crawling bubs, nor little toddlers. All surrounding shopping centres shame Westfield Chermside with their play area facilities for all ages.

All other big shopping centres in the Brisbane are caters with Westfield North Lakes offering at least 2x free play areas (other 2x in Ikea and at Cafe Crema), Indooroopilly having multiple play areas with 4x free indoor play areas, Westfield Garden City with 2x and the list goes on. Yet, Westfield Chermside only has 1x which is outdoor and does not cater to all ages.

I have personally contacted Westfield Chermside about my disappointment which I know I share with many others. There is also plenty of space, in front of JB Hi-Fi and many other spaces in the shopping centre. Their response was simply that there would be one in the future and to keep up to date by liking their FB page. Thank

Please sign this petition if you believe there should be an indoor play area for children at Westfield Chermside.

Updates

July 7, 2019

The feedback from local families has been consistent and clear about the lack of safe space for our little ones to play. I am reaching out to the Westfield management team this week to present our concerns directly. Please email your local council representative to demand that these developments stay on the corporate agenda.

Westfield finally answered our calls and confirmed that plans for an indoor play area are already in motion. Post the news on your social media pages to let other parents know we succeeded. Our persistence forced them to listen so keep checking this page for the final reveal.

1000% support this. There is currently no where young babies and toddlers can play that isn’t broken damaged or run over by school kids!

The existing play area is useless in summer and not toddler friendly. I can't believe how poorly Westfield Chermside caters compared to basically every other Westfield in Brisbane

An indoor play area would be a big draw card. I live between Chermside and Indooroopilly, and Indooroopilly wins out because of indoor play area on wet days!

They used to have a number of indoor play areas and they removed them for no obvious reason other than forcing people to the new restaurant area when it opened. Disappointing!!!

I agree with the petition and would like to add that although the current outdoor area is great it is exceptionally hot in summer (little shade and the grass gets very hot) and there is no coffee shops or similar close by where Mother’s can sit and watch their kids play. With the loss of scuzi cafe, the only cafe big enough for groups of mothers to sit together, there will be even less incentive for parents and mothers to visit the centre.

I agree of having an indoor play area as the outdoor tends to be very crowded and packed with older kids . Younger babies are more suitable to crawl or climb on a more safe environment just like the Minipilly at Indooroopilly mall. If the mall has to attract more mothers to shop during the weekdays then they need to have the right facilities in place
