Pharmacists are trusted healthcare professionals and face a wide array of unique challenges. The low pay rate of locum Pharmacists in South Africa is one of the challenges encountered. We petition that the interest of Pharmacists be taken seriously by revising the current scale for all Pharmacists nationwide; by paying a rate of R500 per hour. Cost of living keeps on rising but our rate has been the same for the past 10 years. We also want our rate to increase above inflation yearly.

I fully agree with the rate. I however feel that this shouldn't be a blanket approach, competence should be factored in. Being paid the same rate with someone who just completed internship/comm service who is fully dependent on you thought a shift as an experienced competent efficient someone with more than 10 yrs of experience will be soooooo unfair.
The hourly rate is not reflective of the skills a qualified pharmacist has. A rate that has not adjusted for inflation is an abomination, and reeks of exploitation.
If you expect us to sacrifice public holidays, school holidays and family holidays (we also have families) . Please pay us what we are worth.
We are professionals, we offer a lot to our clients, like free counselling which we can't even bill for. Other professionals charge you a lot just for seeing their clients and we agree to be paid peanuts?! And the threats of reporting us by customers who think we are just cashiers by the way. 230 doesn't even get me a day's worth of food!
I totally agree to locum rate of R500/hour. Pharmacists play a bigger role in our health care from the development of a drug until it reaches the patient. They always give quality care to patient and yet least compensated.

Its not enough to provide specialized services at low cost and Industries making fortune out of our severely abuse labour.we must be treated as professionals, we have Indemnity bill and travelling cost that we bear on daily basis and subjected to high risk of Violence from the same Clients we serve
