While this change has been long-awaited and necessary, the FBISD Board has decided that this policy will only be applicable to the class of 2017 (freshman class) and beyond. This puts other current high school students at a disadvantage because they do not get the same benefits as the freshmen class despite taking three/four years of an extracurricular. If the board is to continue in implementing this change to the district, we request that they either change the policy to include this year's sophomores and juniors (along with the freshmen class) or begin the change with next year's freshmen in order to even out the playing field.

I have been reading the experiences many of you have shared regarding your extracurricular commitments and the current gap in policy. It is clear that the effort poured into these programs remains consistent for every student regardless of their graduation year. This feedback provides a necessary perspective as I prepare to reach out to the board members for a more detailed discussion.

It is not fair for current sophomores to suffer for pursuing the sport they love. The rule should be equal for everyone.
Honestly, it should be available for all students currently in high school. For Seniors, it wouldn't do much. But for Sophomores and Juniors? That could make a huge difference with their GPA with the time they have left in high school.
Although others may choose to dedicate themselves to a club, others (like me) find a passion for other things, such as fine arts and athletics, which happen to be a course offered at their high school. It is unfair how while some may be able to strive to become valedictorian, others have no chance simply because they also choose to dedicate their high school career to an extra-curricular, alongside academics.
I know one of the Drum Majors in my band was Valadictorian last year and because he was in an extra curricular activity he doesn't have the highest GPA
I am a sophomore who plans on taking Orchestra all 4 years of high school but at the same time, I care about my GPA/ranking. If this policy were to be implemented, it should include all the grade levels that can benefit from it, not just the class of 2017.
It is not right to punish students who persec their interests
It's not nice to exclude people from good changes

I just want people to be able to do what they love in high school without worrying about gpa all the time. So many people quit sports and music classes because it hurts their gpa. This can benefit all of us and our various programs/ activities
