Give West Brook students exemptions for their 1st semester exams. This brings down our stress levels for our harder classes. This also gives us more time, especially seniors, to focus on other courses, college applications, and scholarship applications. We need to maximize our time on where it is needed. Should we present sufficient knowledge and skills over the course of the semester in a given class, we should not have to take an additional assessment to prove our grades. With stress levels so high to get into college with money to afford our furthered education, the last thing we need is 7 more tests to stress about.

The incentive to attend school to receive exemptions is now gone as we, the student body, no longer feel the obligation to attend school any longer than the base requirements. Bringing back our exemptions will give back the incentive to achieve high attendance rates alongside the incentive to work harder and achieve good grades.

After having been told for an entire semester that we were expected to have exemptions this December, the student body has come to anticipate these exemptions. Therefore, taking away these exemptions only a couple weeks before test week has both enraged us with the district's ability to grant and repeal exemptions so easily and disappointed us with this false hope in the district's sympathy for the student body.

The district is ignoring us because they think this will blow over after the semester ends. Post the link to your Facebook page and email the principal today to show them we are not going anywhere.

The administration is finally starting to notice the pressure we are building together. Post this link on your Instagram story right now and email our principal to let them know we expect the exemption policy reinstated immediately.

As Student Body President, I don't believe it's right that we were promised one thing and then given another. I understand this is an administration issue, but nonetheless we were lied to. Whether or not this is an issue of communication is a moot point.

I struggle in certain classes, like any other student, and last year I got to exemp two of my most stressful classes. Taking this chance away from me just adds to the stress of trying to be in the top ten percent, along side the stress of a pre ap student. Think as if you were in the shoes of a student, receiving an exemption is a luxury that we deserve.

It is not okay to give students hope that they'll have exemptions. I have come to school sick and hurting in order to qualify for exemptions this semseter. They may just be midterms, but that doesn't take away from the gravity of the grade. We started school two whole weeks late and most of the seniors have been juggling dual credit classes, extra curriculars, all of their other classes, and college applications all while they struggle to rebuild their home. Plus, delivering this news so late in the semester will only gives students peace of mind about missing anywhere from a couple days to an entire week of school.

It’s not fair to us. I have missed only one day this semester. Some days I would come to school with a fever or while sick just to receive my exemptions.

I think it’s unfair that we were promised these exemptions for midterms and then were suddenly stripped of them. Students from other BISD schools receive these benefits and to back out on your word at the last second is shameful and dishonest.
