For Project Citizen, my class has decided to fix the teacher tenure laws. Right now, it is too hard to fire incompetent teachers. Incompetent teachers are defined as teachers who do not teach the standards and prepare the students for the California State Test incompetent teachers are also defined as teachers who mentally or physically abuse their students. My class thinks that we can improve the ...situation by making the teacher’s contract renewable after two years and improving the evaluation process. We could improve the evaluation process by evaluating the teachers more frequently, have the evaluators teach the same content as the teacher that they are evaluating, have evaluators from different sites come to evaluate our teachers, and lengthen the probation period for needy teachers.
