Andrew Chivers
Managing Director
National Express East Anglia
Dear Mr Chivers,
We rely on a regular service from Clapton rail station, which is served by National Express East Anglia, for our livelihoods. Yet the service from this station at rush hour is, at best, cramped and unpleasant, and is often worse than that. Trains into Clapton are frequently late in the morning, having had to wait for fast trains that go through the station, or are occasionally just simply cancelled altogether, sometimes with no warning. When other modes of transport (such as the Victoria line) are not operating regularly, the extra load on the Chingford service means that most people cannot even board the train at Clapton.
With Clapton itself becoming an increasingly popular neighbourhood, and with commuter traffic generally expected to grow over coming years, the current service of 4 trains per hour at peak time from Clapton to Liverpool Street station is simply not enough. We appreciate that there are issues concerning capacity on the line into Liverpool street, but with the Lea Valley line into Stratford now operational, and with re-routing through other lines (such as via the Rectory Road branch) surely an option, there must be some way to increase the number of trains stopping at Clapton.
We sincerely hope that you appreciate the urgency of improving this service.
