Final supporters
Neighbors of our local school PS 90 have made Community Board 9 aware of recent safety issues and noise violations occurring on the playground after school, in the evenings, and throughout the day on weekends. Currently, the playground is open daily from 7-8 AM until 8-9 PM and has presented a host of safety issues and noise violations that make it impossible for neighbors to have peace in their own homes. During these hours, neighbors have witnessed:
- Children and adults using alcohol and drugs on the play structure, basketball courts, under the pavilion and in the school doorways
- Public urination on the school building and in the schoolyard
- Unattended children yelling, screaming, and banging on playground equipment after school and past dusk. Noise prevents neighbors from enjoying a peaceful dinner - even with windows closed - and disrupts sleep for elderly neighbors and families with young children.
- Beer bottles and trash thrown into neighbors yards from the playground
- Adult men using the playground for boxing matches while playing loud music and shouting profanities
- Minors engaged in sexual activity
We are demanding that Community Board 9 take action to close the school playground and lock the gates at the end of the school day to improve the quality of life for neighbors. We want a safe environment for our children and families to play. With beautiful Forest Park and the Jackson Pond playground and basketball courts three blocks away, we see no need for this playground to be open after school hours, especially when it creates safety and noise problems for neighbors.
We love our community and want to ensure that it is safe and harmonious for all of our neighbors.

The Community Board remains silent despite the evidence we sent them about the conditions outside our homes. I am exhausted by this lack of response but I refuse to let them ignore the safety of our neighborhood.

Reaching this level of visibility makes it clear that the people living around PS 90 are no longer willing to be ignored. It has been an exhausting road to get here but seeing so many neighbors find the strength to demand a peaceful home keeps me moving forward.

I have talked to the children late at night to please be quiet and they paid no attention so closing of the school grounds is the only answer.
The situation has become intolerable. Quality of life issues abound and will only grow worse. Posted curfews and rules are not enforced.
I certainly support the petition. For those of you unfortunate enough to live in close proximity, please continue to flood 311 with complaints so you have a record. On-line submissions are preferable for a paper trail. Also, if possible without placing yourself in an unsafe position, try to obtain pictures or videos of the activity, if you have not already done so. Very sad.
Please review the circumstances and determine if there really is a need to have school playground open after school hours especially if it presents more possible problems than benefits. Everyone is entitled to a safe and peaceful environment especially in their own homes amd surrounding areas. Thank you.
I live directly across the street and theses kids are extremely loud and the language that comes out of their mouths is terrible plus every evening I continually pick up huge amounts of trash thrown by some of them when they leave and also destruction of some of my plant in the garden.
It’s a shame that it’s come to this. Unfortunately the 102 pct can not handle this and therefore the school yard needs to be closed.
No need for this playground to remain open after school is out. Close it!

There is a 300+ acre Park a few blocks away why should residents have to deal with this nonsense.
