In the spirit of being a good neighbor and part of a wonderful community, our neighborhood would like to request that Ponderosa Golf Course respect the neighbors living around the course and curtail the use of loud equipment in general, but in particular before 8:00 AM, when residents are enjoying quiet hours. If at all possible, we request that you be especially considerate on weekends.

The Town of Truckee's noise ordinance sets quiet hours extending to 7:00 AM. This summer, however, we have experienced excessive noise from course equipment well before 7:00 AM, including on weekends. Specific concerns include:

- Gas-powered mowers, blowers, and edgers running before 7:00 AM, even on weekends.

- Frequent use of loud gas blowers where quieter hand tools, like rakes, could be used instead.

The Impact

  • Sleep disruption for residents, including children, elderly household members, night-shift workers, and those with health conditions sensitive to noise.
  • Loss of quiet enjoyment of homes and outdoor living spaces, particularly patios, yards, and porches that back directly onto the course.
  • The inability to sleep with the windows open in the heat of the summer due to early morning disruptions.
  • Cumulative stress and reduced quality of life for the many households affected daily by the timing and volume of course operations.

The Demand

We, the undersigned residents, respectfully request that Ponderosa Golf Course management and TDRPD take the following concrete actions:

  • Establish quiet hours prohibiting gas-powered maintenance equipment use before 8:00 AM on all days, with limited exceptions for emergency safety work.
  • Transition maintenance equipment from gas-powered to electric/battery-powered models, which operate at significantly lower decibel levels.
  • Expand the use of quiet handheld tools such as rakes, brooms, and push tools for maintenance in place of gas blowers, particularly near residential boundaries.
  • Establish a clear, published complaint process and point of contact for residents to report noise concerns, with regular review by course management, TDRPD, and the Town Council.
