Friends-

I am asking for your help in a task of influencing the airwaves of Wichita radio. As believers we are called to engage and influence culture through music and arts. The Christian Hip-hop scene has been growing successful and been recognized through various ways. From Grammy nominations, feature stories in hip hop magazines and consistently rising to the top of iTunes Charts with new releases. Yet with the success of these artists you can not tune into a Wichita radio station and hear them playing over the airwaves. In February, Greg Dobbs and I, took it upon ourselves to write the local hip hop station (Power 93.9) and request that they play some of this music. We were met with opposition and told that "Unfortunately, there are not any christian hip hop artist that have a huge listener demand that would meet the format objectives of Power 93.9." As well as the fact that they only play the "most popular music". (We will post the email correspondence). If these Christian Hip Hop artists were not garnering attention nationally this would be an easy thing to brush off but it is not something that can be brushed underneath the rug any longer. Will you join me in signing a petition to help Power 93.9 realize that Wichita does have a large audience of people that support these artists? This will not be an easy task but I feel like with the support of our friends we can tackle this issue! Feel free to share this via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, etc. The goal is to reach at least 1,000 signatures a month from now. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your support David Shimko

I have been reviewing the email correspondence once more to prepare our next outreach effort. It remains clear that the station underestimates the depth of interest in this genre within our community. Your signatures provide the necessary evidence to challenge the claim that there is no demand for this music.

Reaching this milestone feels like a significant shift in how we approach the conversation about our local airwaves. It confirms that the desire for diversity in our music scene is shared by a much larger community than we originally imagined.

Wichita needs some variety! Tired of hearing the same 5 songs on repeat. Christian hip hop is actually good music and it deserves a spot on the dial.

Lecrae is killing it on the charts but we get nothing. stop acting like there is no demand when you wont even try to play it.
