Support PAID Office Hours!!

In signing, I am stating my support for Part-time Faculty United, Local 6262 to get the Santa Clarita Community College District to pay all adjunct instructors for office hours at College of the Canyons.

We chose this field because we have a passion for teaching and want our students to succeed. Right now we are paid for time in the classroom while we provide a number of office hours to ensure our students get the help they need. As many of us hold several adjunct positions at different schools, it is difficult to cobble together a sustainable living salary. Please help us receive fair pay for fair work by signing this petition!

The administration continues to overlook the necessary labor performed by adjunct faculty outside of the classroom. I am currently coordinating with the union to ensure these signatures are presented effectively during the upcoming board discussions.

As a veteran attending community school with certain disabilities, I take advantage of ofgetting as much of the help the school gives me, after hours being one of them. I believe by helping them you will help students achieve their dreams. Also they deserve that and more for the dedication to see their students succeed.

Our poor treatment and pay of our adjuncts is the great disgrace of our profession. They are very dedicated, work very hard, and are highly-educated; it's demoralizing to labor on, often for years, with so little recognition, benefits, pay, or gratitude.

I have taught at several community colleges as an adjunct where I am paid for office hours. It is appalling that adjuncts who are already underpaid and overworked are expected to conduct office hours for free at College of the Canyons. This undermines students' education and adjunct professors' lives. Shame!

As a student of College of the Canyons, office hours provide students with clarification on difficult topics to grasp and to gain personal relationships with professors and peers allowing for a more efficient educational environment.

In this age of electronic communication, I spend far greater than an hour just answering emails daily [at all hours of the day/night]. In addition to the curriculum writing, building the online classroom, and grading that is uncompensated.

I think if we are forced to have office hours on campus I think we should be paid. If not, then do not force office hours on adjuncts for free. This is time I can spend on other things where I am paid.

Several of my friends are college professors, and each one is gifted and a blessing to all they teach. A "man" should always be paid for his labor.
