There is an immediate threat to remove the elegant, cast iron lamp posts that have graced the high street for nearly 80 years, and to replace them with vastly inferior generic welded steel tubes. Not only another threat to the special nature of our village, but a big waste of taxpayers money. The existing posts were made locally by the Brighton Lighting and Electrical Engineering Company (BLEECO), and are historically important. We strongly believe that the money would be better spent refurbishing them to last another 80 years.
