Surely the design of the lamposts doesn't matter from an efficiency perspective. Why not fit the more efficient internals into the existing posts?
My family have been born and bred in Hurstpierpoint for the last 100 years! The iconic lampposts are part of what makes the village beautiful it would be tragic to remove them and replace them with awful modern day sore thumbs!!!
aste of tx payers money. Refurbish them to a high standard. Thought Hurstpierpoint High Street was in a conservtion area. Don't lamp-posts come under this restriction? Leave them alone except to refurbish.
my gran is 101, blind, and lives on the high street the work involved in changing the lamp post would effcetively make her house bound as she knows the pavements and layouts but would be able to cope with the pavements being dug up.
we have had sufficient ghastly lamp replacemnets in the village already. The Fluourescent lights in Cuckfiled Road and College Lane look like the entrance to heathrow airport and are hideous and the light tye give cold and totally out of keeping with an historic village.
The case for this has not been made out from an engineering or environmental perspective - and the aesthetic case is unanswerable. No!
refurbishing the lampposts would be a far better use of funds than replacing them with inferior ones which will not last half as long.

Another ridiculous idea and waste of money to replace these beautiful cast iron lamp posts with some modern vulgar alternative. Decision made by someone living miles and miles away with no consideration of keeping this beautiful historic village just as it is ? Have they visited the village or did they just look at an aerial view on the internet ?
