The licensing committee has officially granted our permit. I am grateful to the 272 individuals who supported this vision for the Forest Recreation Ground. We look forward to welcoming you to our first summer evening service soon.

Final supporters
Firstly thank you very much for taking the time to look at our petition.
As you may know, we Homemade Cafe have been trying to obtain a license for the new cafe at the Forest Rec. This would enable us to open later in the Summer evenings, serve up supper with a glass of wine, enjoy a continental beer on the terrace watching the sunset, on occasion with some nice live acoustic music on the terrace. It would also allow us to develop the cafe & adjoining function room, for hosting special events, like birthday bashes, christening dos, weddings & business meetings.
Sounds nice doesn't it? We have been working very hard creating our gorgeous new cafe in this previously run down building. The council were lucky enough to get a big lottery grant, which meant they had lots of pennies to bring the park back to life and it's former glory. We were lucky enough to be chosen to take on the cafe space and we want to do everything to make the families & local residents visiting the park enjoy their time there.
Unfortunately the Police want to reject our proposal, suggesting that we will bring trouble to the park, such as cottaging, prostitution, street drinking, violence and disorder. The friends of the forest think we will create disorder and nuisance to the residents with loud music, erm two words for you, goose and fair!
Those of you that frequent our cafes will understand that this is just under-researched nonsense. We are family friendly cafes where people come to have a nice time, yummy food and have a cheeky game of connect 4 if they're lucky!
We think these people making the objections are rather silly and misguided, not to mention how upsetting this to the Homemade team, who have all been working so hard on our new project.

our licensing solicitors helping need names, and if you're a resident, your address or at the very least your street name. We can then present this to the licensing panel to prove how silly this really is.
So far we have had such amazing heartfelt support from customers & residents and we cannot thank you enough, but we need a little more.

Love taking the kids here. A nice evening spot would be amazing for the area. Totally disagree with the police on this one. Please let them have the license!
Gladstone Street. This cafe is a gem and deserves a fair chance. It brings a nice crowd and makes the park feel way safer at night. Dont see what the fuss is about.
Forest Fields local here. Sick of the council blocking everything fun in this city. A glass of wine with dinner is hardly gonna cause a riot is it? Get it sorted.
Bowers Avenue nottingham. Frankly i think its ridiculous the license isnt allowed. The council have spent money revamping forest ground and a lovely business has moved in to optimise the setting. This business would not attract the type of binge drinkers the council fears will become prevalent. People can drink on the forest ground anyway, blocking a licencse for a business who can serve alcohol in a controlled safr environment seems to me like alcohol would still appear on the ground through more illegitimate means.

This is just ridiculous. You cannot say that Homemade having a license will result in increased prostitution, street drinking, violence etc.That is like saying that a sweet shop will result in increased obesity!I am a Psychotherapist and the Manager of a local charity, and I can tell you, people do not engage in behaviours such as those mentioned, due to licensed premises being in the area.There are deeper issues at play for people who enage in risky, anti-social behaviours, and it is not fair to prevent a perfectly respectable establishment from developing it's business, on the basis of erroneous correlations. I provide support to female sex workers, and can tell you that having an establishment like Homemade open in the evenings would likely deter them from working in or around those premises, as it is, as you so well know, an activity that is not legal and as such, it tends to be undertaken in discreet places. I appreciate the police and friends of the forest are very weary about the forest returning to a place of misuse, but I really feel blocking music and licensing from Homemade is not required on these grounds. How can business' be expected to grow, and the Nottingham economy and society to thrive, if opportunities are not given to do so. Also,binge and street drinkers would rarely pay establishment prices for alcohol, as they are out of their financial capability and are much more prone to buying cheap off license.I really think you are very wide of the mark on this one. Give Homemade the chance to brighten the lives of those around the Pavillion area, and others who would like to just be able to go and relax, in a lovely envirnoment, with a glass of wine, listening to some live music. I find the police and local councillors attitude to Homemades proposal quite shocking. Having lived in the area (on and off) from 1997-2012 on Forest Road, Alfreton Road, Bentick Ave. and Noel Street (directly opposite the forest, not the other end) I can say that there used to be a massive problem with prostitution on Forest Road, cottaging/rent boys on Gregory Boulevard and general crime in the area. This has to some extent been cleaned up and the Council have invested money in re-generating the park to the pleasant area it is now. To say that Homemades application would bring these things back is in my opinion ludicrous. This isn't going to be an establishment belting out thumping music at all times of the night or selling cheap offers on alcohol to attract the unhealthier side of peoples drinking. On the music front, when I lived on Noel St. I ran a test with my own sound system (1K speakers) from my flat to see how far away I could hear it. That test didn't even reach the end of the car park let alone to where Homemade is now, so to say that acoustic music being played (even if amplified) would disturb residents (most of whom on Noel St. and surrounding streets are now student lets) is plainly wrong, especially when taking into account traffic and tram noise from Gregory Boulevard in the evening. Jasmin and her team have a very good business model and common sense to what is good for an area which I feel the police and council should back. You've invested in the area to create an open pleasant space for families and friends to congregate so why not show some faith in Homemade to put the park on the map as more than just somewhere to walk your dog or go for a jog and as a location for some fantastic food, soothing live music from local musicians and a glass of wine on a summers evening. I am a resident of Burford Road. I think it is a great idea! I think there needs to be something going on in the evening in the forest to deter the local drunks from hanging around. But provided that there is adequate lighting improvements to the forest footpaths- you literally risk your life walking through it once the sun goes down! Would be nice to see more of a community vibe to help what is otherwise a rather run down area. Let's bring the life back to the Forest!!
