The government finally committed to repairing Highway 224 after all this time. I am exhausted but relieved that the safety of our commuters is finally being taken seriously. We will be watching closely to ensure these repairs actually start on the ground.

The background to this petition is as follows:

  • Provincial Road number 224 serves Peguis First Nation, Fisher River Cree Nation and surrounding communities. The road is in need of substantial repairs.
  • The road has been in poor condition for years and has numerous potholes, uneven driving surfaces, and extremely narrow shoulders.
  • Due to recent population growth in the area, there has been increased vehicular and pedestrian use of PR 224.
  • Without repair, PR 224 will continue to pose a hazard to the many Manitobans who use it regularly.
  • Concerned Manitobans are requesting that PR 224 be assessed and repaired urgently to improve safety for its users.

We petition the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as follows:

  • To urge the Minister of Infrastructure to complete an assessment of PR 224 and implement the appropriate repairs using public funds as quickly as possible.

The road conditions on Highway 224 remain dangerous despite our ongoing efforts to get the attention of the Ministry. We are nearing five hundred signatures and I need you to pass this on to someone else today so we can finally force a formal response.

Reaching this point has been a long and draining process but your commitment keeps me going. It is clear that we are no longer being ignored by those who have the power to fix this road.

The state of the road remains a daily danger and frankly I am exhausted by the lack of action from the ministry. We are nearly at one hundred signatures so please keep pushing this forward because we cannot afford to be ignored any longer.

These roads are to narrow. Alot of lives have been taken due to shoulders of reads being to small. It's hard driving by all the crosses along the road

The progress given to towns and cities should be the same standards given to reservations. We are asking for basics. Please fix the road.

Yes it is in need of repairs so many lives have been lost on these roads, due the conditions and the narrow shoulders. Families can't even walk together during the day it's to unsafe. Government roads shouldn't be in this of condition. They should be safe for vehicles and people walking.

The road was never built properly in the first place. Dirt and clay from the sides of the road was used to build up, before it was paved. It has never been repaved since it was first done in the late 60's/early 70's? Only patch jobs and crappy tar/ gravel patchwork.

The highway is in desperate need of repairing. The road conditions are very poorly done with patches that last no more then a year, the roads are dangerous to predestination walking. There are a few deaths due to narrow roads. Vehicles are always needing repairing due to major ruts in the roads as well as potholes.

This road is definitely hazardous. I am concerned every day, especially for our children and Elders who must travel it. As the main road for getting out of our communities, we must have a safe means of exit, most notably in an emergency.
