I would like to change the location of the Highlands High School graduation ceremony from Highlands to a location that would accommodate more people so I do not have to limit the amount of family who can attend. (Currently Highlands only allows each student to bring 3 or 4 family members)

ive been reading all your messages about who you have to leave out of the ceremony and it honestly breaks my heart. im working on getting a meeting with the administration to show them how many people really care about this. stay tuned because i wont give up on getting our whole families in there together.

i honestly cant believe how fast this is moving and seeing so many people agree that we deserve to let our whole families come is incredible. we have real momentum now so im going to get a meeting set up with the administration to see if theyll listen to us.

Our son is the class of 2019 - one of the largest classes to go through highlands - that's what I'm hearing. He has step parents... Would be awful for him if only his biological parents could attend.
It is important for family to attend this milestone in my children's lives. At this time, none of my son's siblings nor each of his grandparents can attend this year due to available seating. Asking them to sit and watch it on tv is an insult.
It's time to start a new tradition when the old one is no longer practical. If tradition is the main reason to keep graduation on campus, then we should also bring back the grass football field and the canon.
My granddaughter will be graduation this year from Highlands. How about Music Hall? She has parents, 3 siblings, two sets of grandparents. & 3 great grandparents, not to mention aunts & uncles who would like to attend.
This "tradition" is not functional and/or appropriate in 2016! It took many to raise my boys after their father died and to tell grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and coaches that they couldn't be at this celebration was simply hurtful for everyone. Change is good and the right thing to do for everyone, especially the kids!
I feel it is unfair to students and families to have a limit on the number of people who can attend graduation for "tradition's" sake. There are too many other reasonable options nearby to have to worry about ticket lotteries and students deciding with brother/sister/grandparents can and/or can't come watch them graduate.
As an extended family member of one of next year's Seniors I hope you will change the venue.

I support further discussion of this topic. Perhaps there is a solution that would honor tradition by offering a portion of the graduation celebrations (baccalaureate?) at Highlands with the graduation ceremony at a larger venue to accommodate a more reasonable number of tickets per graduate.
