Highlands Graduation: Change of Venue

It is important for family to attend this milestone in my children's lives. At this time, none of my son's siblings nor each of his grandparents can attend this year due to available seating. Asking them to sit and watch it on tv is an insult.

I feel it is unfair to students and families to have a limit on the number of people who can attend graduation for "tradition's" sake. There are too many other reasonable options nearby to have to worry about ticket lotteries and students deciding with brother/sister/grandparents can and/or can't come watch them graduate.

As an extended family member of one of next year's Seniors I hope you will change the venue.

We need to change the venue. As the classes are getting larger, People who have supported our children during their lives are not going to be able to support them during this milestone. Please change the venue.

Change the venue, please. This is an important day and family should be able to honor their graduates.

It's time to start a new tradition when the old one is no longer practical. If tradition is the main reason to keep graduation on campus, then we should also bring back the grass football field and the canon.

I support further discussion of this topic. Perhaps there is a solution that would honor tradition by offering a portion of the graduation celebrations (baccalaureate?) at Highlands with the graduation ceremony at a larger venue to accommodate a more reasonable number of tickets per graduate.

Our son is the class of 2019 - one of the largest classes to go through highlands - that's what I'm hearing. He has step parents... Would be awful for him if only his biological parents could attend.

More Room is better for all the families that want to have extra people be able to attend! MOVE it to BB& T Arena! Not all traditions are meant to stand FOREVER... a nice memory though. Time to move forward and all for an easier process for ALL family members who want to support their graduate! Make the day about the student, NOT a struggle to get seats.

Please move the graduation venue from the PAC to a new venue to accommodate more family members.

Please change the venue. Getting 3-4 tickets does not even allow for our immediate family to attend.

My granddaughter will be graduation this year from Highlands. How about Music Hall? She has parents, 3 siblings, two sets of grandparents. & 3 great grandparents, not to mention aunts & uncles who would like to attend.

I would like to petition the Highlands Graduation location because I want to be able to have more than 3 members come.

The goal is not to move this year, but in future years since we have already been told it isn't possible. Thank you for sharing your perspective. My children only have one Grandparent and of course, they want her there. You said yourself that you would love to have your grandparents there if they could be.

Just to be clear, administration has stated that graduation will NOT be moved this year. Although BB&T, and the football field, are available, they feel it's too late. So our hope is to have it moved for 2017 and beyond. To address a comment from anonymous... this is not just about extended family or grandparents. Many families consist of more than four people and more than two parents. In my opinion, asking people who have raised our children, or their siblings, to sit in the blackbox is a complete insult.

Graduation is a family time. A graduate wants not only his mom and dad there, but grandparents on both sides and siblings too.

Larger families and split families should not be discriminated against. A limit of three or four tickets are laughable. Most schools use a gym or football stadium to accommodate friends and family.
