We are petitioning for the right to have so many hens (no roosters) in Mascoutah. Other towns/cities in our county already have allowed this to help the bug issues. This is not for collecting eggs but for bug elimination and fertilizer without harsh chemicals.

The city council cannot hide from this momentum any longer. We finally have enough people behind us to force these bureaucrats to start listening.

I believe strongly in this endeavor. Bringing hens to our community will benefit us in so many ways including the health of our families, teaching our children about self-sufficiency and the responsibility of raising animals, it will change our commerce, and bring us back to our roots. I am a life-long City of Mascoutah girl and I am happy to pay small fees or taxes on my laying hens in order to benefit the coffers of the city. Lastly, this is a trend that is sweeping the nation in both rural and urban communities, large and small. Let us NOT let Mascoutah fall behind in such an important and life changing venture. Please consider!!

Our family has had chickens for years. They are our pets. They eliminate Mosquitos and other bugs with the added benefits of eggs and sweet companions. People who have not experienced small flocks worry they will be noisy, stinky, and a nuisance, but I assure you this is NOT the case. If city towns like Soulard allow chickens, surely a farm town like Mascoutah would be open to these heartwarming birds. We want to move to Mascoutah, but I won't give up our chickens. I hope this passes.

Chickens are a great way to get your own eggs...but owners need to tend after them... also in their own yards not in neighbors yards

Hens would be great, all the money spent on spraying the mosquitos is not working.

This is long overdue. I support self-sustainability and allowing hens within city limits is a step in that direction.

I really like living in Mascoutah. It is a nice little rural town surrounded by farm land. I think it would be good to allow chickens in town. A rooster might be a little annoying - but people would probably get used to it. But rooster or not, a country town should allow chickens....
