As we all know, Buju Banton is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence for a crime who many( including myself) believe he did not commit. But that is not the reason for the petition..... As his fans and anyone close to him knows, Buju is a Rastafarian. Many Rastas, in addition to not eating pork, also do not eat meat (some don't even eat fish). Buju is currently being held in the. Limestone County Detention Center in Groesbeck, TX which is actually an old warehouse that has been comverted into sort of a makeshift prison, infested with mice, fleas and who knows what else. He was repotedly given a bologna sandwich and when he complained about it, he was told to "just eat the bread". Surely, more reasonable meals, such as beans rice and vegetables could be prepared by the prison, in accordanne to Buju's religious beliefs. True, prison is prison, but at least respect the religion of the inmate, if nothing else. There have been cases in the past, where if an inmate was allergic to a certain type of food or ingrediant(s), consideration would be given as to the preparation of meals for that particular inmate. This is not a plea for special treatment, but, simply consideration itself! This online petition will be forwarded to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and the Limestone County Detention Center in Groesbeck, TX. We need at least 10,000 signatures, so that the ACLU and the Limestone County Detention Center in Groesbeck, TX will know that those backing Buju are serious!
