The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP)houses 207,000 inmates, 2,000 of whom are housed in Special Management Units. These units were created in 2008 and are located at Talladega, AL; Florence, CO;Oakdale, LA;Lewisburg,PA;Allenwood,PA. The "SMU Program" is the subject of over 150 federal lawsuits challenging the brutal, inhumane conditions of those units resulting in 1 murder,1 suicide, hundreds of assaults and suicide attempts occurring in the 25 months since the program's inception. Prisoners are routinely beaten, sprayed with mace, restrained in chains for days, deprived of meals, legal and religious items by federal employees with virtually no oversight or investigations into rampant corruption, misconduct and brutality. Jailhouse lawyer,Jeremy Pinson, has spearheaded the litigation effort to reform the BOP's system and end the infamous lockdown programs. His advocacy has been met with violent reprisal, harrassment, retaliation to no avail. Now in the ultimate move to silence his dissent, the Government seeks to house him in the most secure prison in the US, the US Penitentiary (ADX), in the mountains of Colorado where the Government routinely suppresses free speech by cutting off mail, telephone and visitation access to the media and public. Sign the petition today, asking President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and BOP Director Harley Lappin to respect the rule of law, protect civil rights and end the oppressive SMU programs.

The feedback from those of you who have shared your own experiences is heavier than I ever expected to carry. It feels like we are shouting into a vacuum, but the reports of misconduct continue to pile up behind the scenes despite the silence from Washington. I am tired of the retaliation, yet I find no reason to stop this fight.

The justice system is so flawed. Inhumane treatment, Abuse, criminal activity, fights, fang activity...it all happens and nothing is done. It's barbaric

Its sickening what the BOP gets away with behind closed doors. Corruption everywhere and nobody goes to jail for it.

This is completely wrong. Taxpayer money paying for torture cells is not what this country is supposed to be about. Shut it down.

Stop the abuse. The SMU programs are a disgrace to the entire prison system.

My cousin was in Lewisburg and the stories he told me after he got out were insane. Nobody should ever be treated like an animal.
