March 31, in the year of our Lord, 2011

Ronnie Gilley has been incarcerated in the Montgomery City jail since February 7, 2011.  He has not been convicted of crime, he has not had a speedy trial pursuant to Article VI of the Bill of Rights (U.S. Constitution), and a jury has not heard his case.  As of today he has not even been indicted for the alleged crime that has put him in jail.  Yet he remains in full custody of the Federal Government via the Montgomery City jail.  His attorneys have previously requested release on multiple occasions through an appeal process but were unsuccessful each time.  In one of these aforementioned hearings the court deemed Mr. Gilley was a menace to society.  In yet another attempt his attorneys have requested he be released to a third party custodian.  Over forty-five (45) people have agreed to make application to seek this responsibility of a third party custodian because they believe in his character, feel he is not a threat to society and feel that the Montgomery City jail is not the proper place for Mr. Gilley at this time.  It is impossible for any defendant to prepare for a trial of this magnitude in that restrictive of an environment.   A third party custodian bears the responsibility of ensuring that Mr. Gilley follows the post release rules and is subject to the consequences should Mr. Gilley violate the rules set forth by the judge.

At this point, to show the overwhelming community support for Ronnie Gilley, I am asking interested parties to sign this petition in support of Ronnie Gilley and to send notice to the Middle District of Alabama.  By signing this petition we are saying in America a man is innocent until proven guilty.  Mr. Gilley should be released immediately and be allowed to prepare for his upcoming trial.

This is completely wrong. Everyone deserves their day in court. Where is the justice system we are supposed to have?

Nobody should be sitting in a cell that long without being charged. Rules are rules and they are being ignored here.

Ridiculous. Six weeks with no charges? My tax dollars at work right there. Let the man go.

I hope they look into this because locking someone up without an indictment is scary as heck. Hope he gets home to his family soon.
