This petition is in place to draw the attention of the City of Norwich’s council. They have been disregarding the immediate need for the Norwich Police Department (Norwich , CT) to have an upgraded radio system for decades. These officers place their lives on the line everyday they put on the uniform, not knowing what that next call will be. Their system is so out of date and spotty some radio calls don’t go through and the officer must resort to using their personal cell to call dispatch. What is it going to take for the city council to realize this equipment is a necessity? PLEASE SIGN this petition and join the next city council meeting on 12/04 to voice your concerns; our voices must be heard. Please see the articles below, they show this has been an ongoing issue for years the council has been pushing aside. Is the safety of our officers not the top priority? I urge you to contact your local news outlets and representatives, something must be done!

The City Council continues to ignore the fact that our officers are working with equipment that fails during emergencies. Their refusal to listen is a direct threat to public safety and it is infuriating. We are going to keep turning up the pressure until they stop prioritizing their budget over the lives of those protecting our streets.

The momentum we have built finally forced the local news to pay attention. The Norwich City Council can no longer hide behind their decades of excuses while our officers risk their lives with broken gear.

Please give these deserving public servants what they need to do their jobs safely & efficiently. Officers having to use their personal cell phones to call for backup? Really???
I feel this is a necessity for our officers. They do put their life on the line. Maybe if the people on the city council had sons or daughters serving our community they would feel differently!
The outdated radio system needs to be replaced before someone (Police or citizen) is killed due to ineffective communications.
having an upgraded radio system especially in this field should be an utmost priority, these officers risk their lives and not being able to get additional resources could be a matter of life and death. the city of norwich really needs to reevaluate what they deem priority
This serious life-safety issue has been known about, and well documented for decades. It's time the city leaders stopped playing politics, and do what it takes to make sure that the single most important need of its fine police officers is taken care of!

As the spouse of an officer, I urge this effort to be passed and am appalled that this has gone to these extremes to get basic equipment replaced. Think it's time to rethink our officials representing us and bring in new people who have one's directly effected by decisions made. Look out for those who protect us!
