Neighbors, as most of you may have already heard, there was a child that was hit by a car while crossing the crosswalk on his bike yesterday. This child was my son.

My son was on his way to school riding his bike and legally crossing at the crosswalk behind 2 adults. The adults safely crossed but then one car decided not to stop. That car hit my son Nickolas' back tire. The back tire then swung around and hit the front tire, causing it to swish in between his left leg. Luckily, he was able to walk away with only minor injuries but, he was very shaken up. As you can imagine, this could have been so much worse. Changes are needed now!

I have began by contacting the landscaping company requesting that the bushes adjacent to the crosswalk be trimmed to ensure the visibly of both oncoming traffic and pedestrians is not obstructed. It is my understanding that this has been addressed for now.

The next step will be more difficult. I believe we need a sign posting the school speed limit with blinking lights from the City of McAllen. I also believe, that we need a crossing guard and/or security guard for the students who legally utilize the crosswalk to and from Idea Tres Lagos.

I was informed that the school has hit several road blocks in the past attempting to get this done. They need parental assistance by means of raising voices to get things done.

With all this said, I am starting a Petition in hope to get action quickly! The more voices we can gather, the faster things can possibly get done.

Please, help me help all of our children!! We need a safe way for our children to get to school
