It has been noted that several individuals drive erratically and over the speed limit whilst driving through the village of North Nibley. The risk to residents of the village is great, and many people putting their lives at risk every day just to cross the road. Folk that live on the main road are at the greatest risk, having no other option but to walk along the edge of the road to leave their house. These individuals are notably young families and elderly residents, already vulnerable members of society. Additionally, if pushchairs and wheelchairs are needed, this means they are more at risk of potentially being hit. Dark days & nightime, as well as poor weather conditions, only adds to the risk, for both pedestrians and drivers alike.

We are proposing to communicate with Gloucestershire Highways, through the Parish Council, to discuss the possibility of installing a pavement. This pavement ideally would be 1.5m in width, wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair or pushchair as well as walkers. A proposed citing would be from the lay-by next to the bungalows of New Road (B4060 towards Dursley), up to the crossroads in the centre of the village.

For more information, there is the Annual Parish Meeting in the Village Hall on Monday 8th April 2019 at 7pm. This will be an opportunity for the community to bring up and discuss all issues concerning the speed of vehicles in our village; and not only on the main road but along The Street to the School as well.

To be successful in the first steps of communicating with Glos. Highways, this petition has been put together to ensure the voice of our village is heard. Help us make our village a safer place and also come along to the Parish Meeting.
