I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for your support during a challenging time. As many of you know, I am Mrs. Gema Dominguez Mora, also known as Mrs. Brett, the Spanish teacher at Sir John A. Cumber Primary School. Over the past six years, it has been my privilege to work alongside each of you, witnessing the growth and development of our students.
Unfortunately, I find myself facing uncertainty regarding my future in the classroom. Despite my dedication, passion, and positive performance as an educator, the Department of Education Services (DES) has indicated that my contract will not be renewed for the upcoming academic year. Shockingly, they have provided no specific reason for their decision, leaving me feeling disheartened and uncertain about what lies ahead.
I heartily request you to sign this petition expressing your support for my contract to be renewed.
As my colleagues, I am reaching out to you for your support. Your words have power, and I believe we can make a difference together. I kindly ask you to write a short note expressing why you want me to continue as the Spanish teacher at JACPS. Whether it's acknowledging our collaborative efforts, sharing how my teaching has positively impacted your students, or simply expressing your support for my dedication to education, every word of encouragement will make a difference.
Additionally, to all my students’ parents, your voices are invaluable. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to teach your children and witness their love for learning grow. Despite the challenges I face, your support means the world to me. I kindly ask you to write a short note expressing why you believe my continued presence as the Spanish teacher is important for our school community. Your voices can make a significant impact in advocating for my retention.

The silence from the department is exhausting but I am still sending emails and seeking answers every single day. Reading the notes you leave here reminds me why I cannot just walk away from this fight.

Please renew Mrs Brett contract. The function she performs is of vital importance for all those children whose first language is Spanish. I myself am very grateful for the support she has given to my son David Viera Sánchez, a child who He came to school crying for not knowing English and today he is the class monitor and I am sure that part of that achievement that he has had is thanks to Miss Brett. Please, I beg you to renew the contract, it is very important.

My daughter is a year 6 student at SJACP and she loves Spanish class since having Mrs. Brett for her teacher. At this moment she is able to count to 100 in spanish confidently before Mrs. Brett encourages her to challenge herself.
I can only support Mrs. Brett due to her commitment to the highest standard in education and her dedication to teaching and caring for her students. Her impact in our child has been noticeable and we would live to have her working with our daughter for a longer period. If anyone may need to contact me in this regard, I am open to it. Mrs. Gema embodies the qualities of an exceptional educator. She is not only knowledgeable and skilled in teaching Spanish, but she is also deeply invested in the well-being and academic growth of her students. Her passion for teaching is evident in her enthusiastic and engaging lessons, which inspire students to actively participate and excel in their language learning journey. She is the reason my daughter is truly happy on a Monday morning, knowing she has Ms. Gema's Spanish class!
She is a fantastic teacher. The children love her and have a love for Spanish because of her.
