Those of us that live in the Lake MacDonald/Forest Acres area are all aware of how poor our internet connection is. Some of us are only on ADSL1, and as well as having such a slow connection packet loss occurs frequently. Apparently the NBN is available in Lake MacDonald Drive but there are no plans to take it further onto Highland or even to Forest Acres. We are less than 2 hours from a capital city, 20 minutes from Noosa and we deserve better but won’t get it unless we do something. This is also exacerbated by the poor phone reception. Most of us can only get reception if we are with Telstra, it’s only 3G and some need an expensive booster or satellite to even get that. Some of us operate a small business from home which has brought money and jobs into the region and we rely on the internet to work.
If you have this problem and would like to make your voice heard please respond to this petition. We will then raise it with the local politicians and anyone else who might be in a position to do something about it.

The emails I receive from those of you struggling to work from home are exhausting to read because they reflect my own daily frustration. We are currently preparing a formal packet of our signatures to drop off at the representative office. Rest assured that the lack of progress from the service providers is pushing me to look for new ways to force this conversation into the open.

Seeing this grow makes the endless frustration of dealing with a dead connection feel a little less lonely. I am tired of the constant buffering and the technical excuses, but knowing I am not fighting for this access alone keeps me going.

When I am at work in Noosa Junction I am able to access speeds of 17-20 Mb/sec. At my home in Forest Acres the maximum I can achieve is 1.2 Mb/sec !!! I attempt to work from home on Cloud based applications, but it is near impossible. I have tried to upload a medical report 3 times tonight and on each occasion the link has timed out, the report has been lost and I have had to start again - I have given up until I get to work next week.
I manage a global medical software business which requires me to provide online and telephone support to my clients around the world. The slowness of the speed and the packet loss often make this impossible. I often have to resort to driving into Koroit to a friend's office to get a good enough connection, but this is not very feasible at 6am. I also bring software developers up frequently so we can work together and we often grind to a halt while we sit staring at a screen waiting for files to be uploaded.
We aren't likely to get here for over a year. In the meantime the Telstra reception is appalling and totally unreliable. We are trying to run a business from our home. It is an international business and we deal extensively with China. It makes us look like the poor cousins in the world of telecommunications! The nature of our work is very much involved with innovation. It makes the government's policy on this a joke - we don't even have a reliable telephone system, how can we ever present ourselves as an innovative nation!
I would love to be able to skype my grand daughter at lake MacDonald without all the drop outs and frozen pictures.
I work from home and we would love to be able to use the internet when we want to, not just when it works. We pay for it, but don't get the service.
Desperately need internet that doesn't keep dropping out. Working from home.
We don't have a television signal either we have a signal from a Satalite and TV comes from Alice Springs we also don't have mobile signal

As a website designer, I am online all day long from home in Forest Acres. I have complained many times about the poor Internet services here, and there have even been times I have resorted to going into the Cooroy library to get some work done. It is no wonder Australia lags the world in Internet speeds. Remote working is going to become more and more commonplace, and necessary in the years ahead, but without decent Internet infrastructure this can't happen.
