This petition is to help protect our children, and loved ones from tragedy's like Columbine and now the Sandy Hook shooting. We want more security for our schools. Although police respond times are roughly 5 minutes or less, if there were officers or security guards in our schools we could possibly prevent things like this from happening ever again. Too many children, students, and staff have lost their lives because of lack of security and awareness in our educational systems. We must get the right counselors and people in our schools that can evaluate students at the 1st sign of a problem to prevent them from doing these shootings. We need to have assemblies every few months to make and keep our students aware of the possibilities of tragedy's like these happening to their schools, gun safety, and shooting drills. We need security guards, metal detectors, I.D. only access to schools, buzzers to let people in our schools, shooting drills, bullet proof glass and doors, security cameras, security systems, and a police squad dedicated strictly to patrolling our schools everyday. School is supposed to be a safe place, and a place to learn. That has been taken from us time and time again over the years, and no one has done anything to try and prevent it from happening again and again. There needs to be armed guards, and also teachers and staff should be allowed to carry a gun with a CCW and have it in their classroom in a safe at all times. Giving them the opportunity to protect their students and themselves from danger. We cannot fix with a band aid what happened today on 12/14/12, we can only pray for those affected and hope that this never happens again. The only way to insure that it doesn't, is to make changes to the way security is in our schools. We want our innocent children protected at all costs, and the only way to do that is with the proper resources to get the proper security for our schools. I am hoping to obtain around 1,000,000 signatures in remembrance of all of the lives lost in direct result of school shootings. We must protect and serve our local communities, and our country. We should start by protecting our schools. Their have been 1 too many school shootings, and I hope that we can make a difference as a nation with this petition. If you agree, and would like to help the cause please sign. Sincerely, A sympathetic and concerned mother

I never imagined this would gain so much traction when I started typing it out in a total panic. Seeing how many people feel the exact same desperate need to lock down our schools is honestly overwhelming if I think about it for too long.

common sense. armed security at the front door. stop the shooter before they get inside the hallway.

Enough is enough. My kids should be able to go to class without me worrying if they will come home. Put armed guards in every school now.

Teachers want to protect the kids. Let them carry if they are trained. Stop making schools soft targets for these monsters.

what happened in connecticut broke my heart. we need to do more than just send thoughts and prayers. we need bulletproof glass and real guards.

schools are just sitting ducks right now. why is this even a debate? pay for the security or pay the price later. so sad.

metal detectors at every entrance!! its ridiculous that airports have better security than where we send our babies every morning.
