By signing this petition you can help us in our efforts to receive a Park and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant from the state of North Carolina. This grant money will be used to not only build access to the greenway, but also a 5k, natural surface cross country trail. This will be adjacent to the greenway and will provide a safe, off-road training and recreational facility. We just want safety for our students. The local bureaucrats are stalling while our runners dodge traffic on dangerous roads. We need to hit 250 signatures right now to force their hands and show them this community demands safety.

Safe access for community and SMHS to greenway, and a 5k trail to boot, sounds like a top level project!
Looks like a great project not only for the students but for the neighborhoods as well. Good luck!
Not only a connection from the high school, but a much-needed connection for neighborhoods to the 30+ mile Cross Charlotte Trail.
I read Aubrie Barnharts post on why she would like to do this. And even though it happened in 1998 that could still happen anywhere, with someone possibly getting hit by a car and dieing. I am wanting to help others a lot lately and I want to help any future South Meck Sabres stay safe.
It would be a big improvement for the cross country team even though I no longer live in Charlotte.
South Meck parents think this is a great idea!

This will help tremendously with the safety of runners by keeping them off the streets. 1 runner was killed years ago crossing park road.
