It has come to my attention that there was a school-wide vote involving the staff deciding not to include more than 3 parents per classroom in the End of the Year Party. Each year parents have attended this event to celebrate their children successfully completing another school year, and to help make the event possible with manning stations, helping to control the children, and bringing items.

With this new rule, parents will not be allowed in the building unless on the list of accepted parents selected by the faculty. While this decision may have been reached for personal reasons, safety reasons or just trying something new, NOTHING was said to the parents about this. To this day, with the party a week away, the school has failed to communicate this decision to the parents with a strong intent to turn them away at the door if they show up.

We respect the decisions of the school and respect their ability to make them. We do not, however, condone making such decisions without consulting the parents. Making a decision only a couple of weeks in advance without any warning is completely unacceptable. Some parents take off work for these parties and will lose possible income if they are not forewarned.

Please sign this petition if you disagree with the way the school has come to this decision and its neglect to inform us. Feel free to comment as well if you disagree with the decision that has been made!

Oh, I was good enough to hunt down for every field day for the last 7 years, but may not be good enough to be at my 5th graders very last school party ever!

I understand there's an issue of safety because of the number of people that attended the Valentines party - but I think that's been happening for years now and I'm not sure why they would suddenly change it and not tell us about it. No bulletin, no email, no note in the howler- just making a decision that affects us without even mentioning it.

I contacted another parent at a different elementary in Plano. She is the president of their PTA. This was only at Harrington. She was appalled that the school would do this. The background check is across the whole of PISD but not the restricting of parent involvement in parties.

This situation has slowly been deteriorating through this school year under the guise of “security.” Now that I have received this email/posting, and I’m wondering if it’s really district wide or just localized to Harrington. The Harrington Administration has been slowly excluding parents from our children’s school lives. This is just another example where they made a unilateral decision to exclude the parents. Every party that I have attended at Harrington has had a lot of parent participation. If this keeps up Parents, the Harrington Administration will completely exclude all of us from any school activities. Parents, PISD is a public school, not a private school, not a Military or boarding school. This needs some perspective. Right now, the perspective is “extreme protection” with no governance. We need to reign in the Harrington administration or have a logical, detailed explications for these new stricter rules. My question for this group is “Do we know if this is a PISD Mandate or localized to Harringon?”

What upsets me the most about this whole thing is that the school didn't come to the parents in the first place. If this is a reaction to having too many parent visitors in a grade level than a letter should have gone out to address the situation in that grade level not have a secretive meeting without parent representation to solve the problem. The only thing the school has accomplished in doing all this is create a lot of drama and breakdown trust between the school and the parents.

It is sad that they think that they can't come to the parents and discuss this with them. Instead, they resort to hiding the decision. Very sad.

have been cleared. Elementary is the time when the children appreciate the family attending these fun events. It seemed to work out fine the last 6 years!! We are making memories that will last forever at this age! It should be encouraged!! They need to quit voting out the positive things and concentrate more on whats going on right under their nose. The bullying and meanness that goes on at Harrington is unacceptable and should be delt with!

I understand the Importance of background checks. I don't understand why the families can't attend these events if they ha
