This is a petition to present to the Mount Vernon Traffic Safety Committee, to create a safer environment for all walkers in the Skagit Highlands, especially children and families who walk to attend Harriet Rowley Elementary. Suggestions include: stop signs or flashing crosswalks at Monarch Blvd and Mount Baker Loop / speed bumps on Monarch or Skagit Highlands Parkway / increased patrols / monitored speeds on Skagit Highlands Parkway / parking safely and legally near back entrance of Harriet Rowley / crosswalks at back entrance of Harriet Rowley.

The Mount Vernon Traffic Safety Committee cannot ignore this momentum anymore. Our neighborhood is fed up with their neglect and we are forcing them to look at these dangers.

Too many people are driving too fast in our neighborhood. We need to make our community a safe place for our families no matter what age they are. Our children are small and hard to see and are more at risk of injury, especially if someone is driving too fast or not paying attention.
Too much traffic near the back entrance. Its a total mess every morning.
The speeders on the parkway are out of control. I worry every time my kids walk to school. Just put in a few speed bumps already!
We’ve almost been hit multiple times walking to and from the school or bus stop.
As a former owner in the Highlands I 100% support this. Start keeping track of any near misses you've witnessed, call it in to law enforcement. Present the data to city council so they may take all this to the traffic board. Best of luck! Protect the children!
This area is not designed to handle the traffic for a drop off area.
Safety for our children, over convenience for drivers.

Cars fly around that corner by the elementary school like it is a race track. Someone is going to get hurt soon if nothing changes.
