Friends of Philpott, Inc., a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, is seeking your help to determine if there is a need for a totally ADA compliant park in Henry County. Help Bowens Creek Park become a park for visitors and residents with physical challenges(youth and adults) can maneuver throughout the park without assistance and thus adding to their enjoyment of the scenic beauty and activities of this area. The project will be completed in four phases: (1) Beach access and handicap fishing pier, bulkhead, and walkway; (2) Picnic Pavilion and handicap trail; (3) Beach wheelchairs with access/walkway and wheelchair storage building; (4) Handicap access to beach and picnic area. Friends of Philpott, Inc. is seeking cooperative efforts to improve the overall quality of life for our community and to prevent additional health problems for the handicap. This project would improve the quality of life in Martinsville and Henry County by supporting services to the disadvantaged by creating recreational opportunity for those who are physical challenged in the region. The project will also increase community economic opportunity by increasing tourism which would increase the need for lodging, fuel, food, dining, and other necessary items being purchased from local businesses. This project goes hand-in-hand with the work of other organizations that have provided some activities for physical challenged, this project will help to fill the gap so all citizens have an opportunity to enjoy nature first hand. Almost everyone knows of a family member or neighbor (senior or youth) who have a very limited choice for outdoor activity. Friends of Philpott, Inc will be seeking funding for this project and needs proof there is a need for the project within Henry County. No tax dollars will be used. Please help by signing this petition.

The feedback from local families about the need for accessible recreation has been powerful. We are currently scouting potential contractors to get the ball rolling on phase one.

My uncle uses a wheelchair and there is nowhere local he can go to enjoy the water. This would mean the world to our family.
