Skateboarding is a $2.5 billion dollar industry with no signs of slowing. This is a market that is largely un-tapped in south-central PA. With that said, there is no denying the fact that skateboarding and other wheeled “sports” are extremely under-served in our community. As the population in Hanover, PA continues to rise, I feel that a free, open to the public, concrete skatepark could greatly benefit our community; from our youth, to teenagers, and even adults.
My vision is a free-to-use, safe, all-encompassing and family orientated facility for users of all ages. It would be professionally designed and built by an experienced and reputable skatepark builder that features design elements suggested by local skaters and the community as a whole.
Skateparks are proven to increase both physical & mental health, reduce illicit behavior, reduce damage to private property, and boost positive economic impacts. A skatepark would not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the town and will be an asset to the whole community.
Please read my full proposal by clicking here. In this proposal, I highlight a number of benefits that public skateparks provide for communities, some common misconceptions, the general process that goes into a project like this, and a plan to make it happen!
My goal with this petition is to generate and document community support. I also want to help educate those who might be on the fence about the idea. It won’t happen if we don’t get it started. My plan is to take charge, create a skatepark committee, gather the community, and get things going!

Seeing this kind of energy for a skatepark in Hanover is honestly overwhelming. I started this because I grew up having nowhere to ride and it means everything to see so many neighbors agree that our town needs a real place for us.

Seeing one hundred people sign this in such a short time confirms that I am not the only one in Hanover tired of seeing our skaters pushed out of public spaces. My son and his friends have been skating on uneven pavement for years so this support really hits home for our family.

I'm 47 and I still BMX and skate board. I also have two teens that rely on skating as an outlet. My two younger children also live for the skate park. With Covid 19 the need has become even more greater for our family to have a place to go together.
I grew up Hanover in the 80/90s pre-YMCA skatepark. I would have loved to have a park to spend time at, instead of waxing curbs around town. I now live on Long Island and we have skateparks all around. They’re full of kids having fun and doing what they love.
I see kids all the time skateboarding and biking where they shouldn't be and in dangerous areas. Let's give these people a safe place with the purpose of good exercise and the possibility to meet new friends and do what they love at the same time.
Hanover needs this skate park. The kids have no way to release there Energy but at parks . They hit a certain age where they become to big to play at a park. I have a 6 foot 13 yr old son that has adhd and this would be a great way for him and many other kids to release their energy .
The Reid Menzer Memorial skatepark in York PA has had a huge positive impact on the city. It flourishes during spring/summer/fall a large number of people come to enjoy it, and patronize local businesses. I imagine it would be similar in hanover
PLEASE GIVE US A SKATEPARK ALREADY!!! I am sick of driving to York or Westminster.
We need a park in hanover, bring hanover back to life, it would bring a community together from all over.

Not every kid is into the “regular” sports like baseball and soccer. Some kids need more of a challenge and skateboarding provides that. I learned almost everything I know from my years as a skateboarder and now I’m a COO of a successful health services company. Skateboarding save my life.
