The municipality has formally agreed to cancel the proposed tariff hikes. This outcome reflects our collective refusal to accept unreasonable financial burdens. We will continue to monitor the budget process to ensure these costs remain manageable for all residents.
The Citizens of Ethekwini have had enough of exhorbitant tariffs and increases. We reject the latest hikes and demand that all increases be scrapped with immediate effect. The Covid pandemic, downturn in the economy, job losses, businesses facing bankruptcy, poor decisions and
Unjustifiable salaries of councillors has contributed 5o these increases. Why should the people pay for the mistakes of the politicians . This petition is one way of letting the Minicipality know that we have had enough and it will be sent to the Mayor .
The feedback I continue to receive confirms that many households are struggling under the weight of these unsustainable municipal tariffs. I am currently compiling your accounts of financial hardship to include in the formal submission to the Mayor. Your transparency regarding these economic challenges strengthens our case for a policy revision.

Cost of living is killing the average person, how do the government expect us to pay more for electricity bills. Lots of people are out of jobs, n we are in a pandemic, for crying out loud.

Tariffs keep on rising making it impossible to survive.we've had too many power outages/loadshedding, but still paying exorbitant fees.its unacceptable.

I too have been billed excessively. I had no option to make a deal to pay even though my meter has not been read for the past year or more, to date no meter reading. Due to Covid-19 and the high bills, it is extremely difficult to put food on the table.

Cannot afford to pay a bill of R4000 every month. When we have unemployment family members. Have to assist with their food and bills as well. What about all the people living of free water and lights. Are we working to pay theirs as well. No this is nothing but punishment for the employed.b
