If you are affected by the sound of gunfire emanating from 14020 and 14032 Norwood Road in Raleigh, NC, please sign this petition.

By signing this petition, you are asking that Wake County intervene on your behalf to limit the hours and duration of gunfire in our community to set times, so that homeowners and their families may plan outdoor play and outdoor events around those set times, limiting their exposure to the sound of gunfire. Duration and times to be decided upon in consultation with homeowners.

Please include the name of your Subdivision when you sign, if possible.

The complaints of two (2) or more persons, at least one of whom resides in a different home from the other complaining person or persons, when combined with the complaint of a duly authorized investigating person, shall be prima facie evidence that such sound is unreasonably loud, disturbing, and annoying or unnecessary noise. Sound emission decibel measurements shall not be required ~fore stablishment of a prima facie case. (Ord. of 11-17-86)

Updates

March 17, 2018

The property owners at Norwood Road are showing a total disregard for the peace of our neighborhood while Wake County officials continue to drag their feet. I am currently compiling every single complaint to force a confrontation with the authorities who refuse to enforce our basic noise ordinances. Stop letting these people turn our backyards into a firing range.

March 17, 2018

The people at 14020 and 14032 Norwood Road are finally hearing us loud and clear. Wake County officials can no longer pretend this noise is just a minor nuisance when so many neighbors are demanding an end to this reckless gunfire. We have the momentum now to force these regulators to actually enforce the ordinance they have been ignoring.

When our children are outside in the backyard and the gunfire starts, they either have to move to the front yard or come in the house in the hopes it will stop. It's so unnerving since we do not know if a stray bullet will fly onto our property. Good luck trying to relax on weekends or holidays. Shots fired on Christmas Eve and Day this past year. The frequency has increased within the past few years. I have entertained the idea of recording the gunfire.

When my kids are out riding their bikes or walking in the woods, the gunfire noise really scares them. And the sound of gunfire when you're out walking on Christmas Eve? It's just awful. If you're trying to sell your house and a buyer hears that? :/

As others have noted, this has been going on for many years, but has increased in intensity and frequency over the past couple of years. We feel like we're in a war zone - it's incredibly stressful to us and our animals. We often feel that we're trapped inside and unable to enjoy our yard. (Trotters Ridge)

Noise from gunshots, especially automatics, emanating from addresses on Norwood Road are loud enough to be heard upstairs in furthest room from noise. Noise levels create tension in my neck and head to the point of headaches (health issue). Noise went on for an hour today.

Having had to listen again for several hours this Sunday afternoon constant booming gunfire. I am afraid to go outside or let my pet out. Worry that if I sell my house I would have to disclose the adverse noise from this gun range. This does not belong so close to neighborhoods and is inconsiderate and disturbing.

As if the gunfire isn’t annoying enough, it starts my dogs barking nonstop. It can be heard inside as well as outside, so I can’t get away from it unless I leave home. So much for a quiet afternoon on the deck.

We have noticed increased frequency and longer duration.
