The construction of a modern cold storage warehouse on the Portland waterfront would bring unprecedented benefits to farmers, fishermen and food producers throughout Maine and assure the continued revival of the Port of Portland
This is a historic opportunity to modernize the port with private investment that will create hundreds of jobs and generate millions of dollars in economic activity.
Please don’t let the voices of a misguided few kill a project that will benefit the entire state. The proposed location is ideal because the warehouse would be adjacent to a rail line and Maine's only container terminal.
We urge the city to change the zoning to allow this project to move forward.

This will be a key part of our cold chain for Maine farmers to reach national markets.
It is unfortunate some folks in the west end may lose their view of the working waterfront on Fore River, however we cannot lose this opportunity to maintain and hopefully grow the working waterfront. Along with providing opportunities for other local business, this project will put Mainers to work for many years.
Maine must invest in its already vibrant maritime industry and employment for the future. Fisheries is an established marine use and without appropriate storage in an international market condition that demands frozen product the industry will become less competitive and put at risk. As with offshore wind, will we again fail to make the required investment to build our future?
As an original member with Ann Rand and others of "The Working Waterfront Coalition" in Portland, Maine I am pleased to support this cold storage facility. I worked in the Hannaford Bros wholesale food warehouse when that cold storage facility went into operation in South Portland, and it made all the difference for the People of Maine.
This facility is a critical piece in preserving the Maine fishing industry, from harvest to table, and can be sustainable only with a business model that leverages similar needs of other farming and agricultural industries to make it successful.
When yard eight was an active railroad classification point on the water front The West End neighborhood constantly complained about the noise and idle locomotives
As a business operator in South Portland for over twenty years, this is a huge win for the entire region.

Portland's greatest commercial asset is its port. The citizens and private corporations have made significant investment to advance and modernize Portland's intermodal transportation system. Cold Storage space has become the limiting factor, holding back further development and economic benefits for Portland and the region. There will always be a compromise with those desiring to protecting the current aesthetic of a quiet port. Quiet ports do not generate jobs, tax revenue, economic resilience, or increased property values. Working, modern ports do.
