Thank you for your valued comments and signatures for the petition to save the Playground at Glastonbury Gardens.
The support from the local community and visitors to the park has been amazing and so inspiring. So many signatures and detailed comments have been received from residents and all agree this facility is ESSENTIAL to Austinmer.
With a total of nearly 200 signatures we have been able to make a difference.
Today (Aug 5) I received an email from Jeff Wearing (acting Recreation Services Manager) stating that Wollongong Council Management have approved the replacement of the swing set at Glastonbury Gardens.
A new swing set will be built over the next 6 - 8 weeks and will be placed hopefully close to the existing playground area but I am told, not in the exact spot due to construction issues.
Unfortunately the fate of the remaining playground equipment is still up for discussion and will be open for comments from the community when the new council is elected. So look out for the "Draft Play Framework" Public Notice from council to be released in September.
Thank you again for all the community support, we will now at least have a swing set for the kids at Glastonbury Gardens.

The Wollongong Council keeps dodging my direct questions about the rest of the park equipment. They think a single swing set settles the debt they owe this neighborhood but they are dead wrong.

So happy to hear this! The old swings were rusted out and dangerous anyway. Cant wait to see the new ones up.
Keep it near the park entrance please. Its the only spot where we can actually keep an eye on them.
Great work everyone! About time the council listened to us for once.
REALLY glad they are replacing them instead of just tearing it all down. Austinmer needs this play area.
Finally some good news. My kids love this place and we walk here every single weekend. Thanks for sorting this out.
