We the people of the United States of America hereby proclaim our desire to have compassion and seek justice and peace for all men and women in America and around the world. By signing this petition we say to you, our freely elected government, that we will not see innocent people sent back to a poverty stricken country, previously plagued by war and famine. We ask that you please consider any option available to help those Liberians who have built their lives here in the United States of America during their time of refuge, the chance to continue their peaceful existence in our country should they so choose. It is our responsibility as human beings to help our fellow man and bring about a world of peace and justice. Many of these people have been in this country for over 15 years and in that time have done more for this country than natural born citizens have done for it. They have survived poverty, war, and hostility and come to a country where they have taken advantage of every opportunity given to them. They have PhD's, Football championship rings, college degrees, great jobs, comfortable homes, and loving families. They are members of our churches, schools, communities, states, and they want nothing more than to call this great nation home for many years to come. They are teachers, doctors, lawyers, students, and friends and they deserve a chance at happiness and peace. They give back to their communties, they salute our flag and they pay taxes that help build our roads and schools and help pay our parents and grandparents social security stipends. Grant them the peace of mind in knowing that the life they have built here and have worked so hard for can remain theirs right here in the United States of America no matter what we have to do to make it happen.
