Mr. Bustle just confirmed that the nylon mandate is officially scrapped and our girls can go back to wearing socks. Seeing our daughters finally feel comfortable in their school uniforms again is a total relief. Thank you for sticking with me until we got this changed.

August 7th update from Laura Schmitt: Thanks everyone for your overwhelming support. The petition has been presented to Mr. Bustle with all your signatures. I'm confident that he and the STM administration will hear us and return to a socks-with-skirt policy.
Petition to overturn one of the requirements of the new STM uniform policy
We want the administration to revisit the uniform policy regarding our girls having to wear tights or nylons with their skirts. We don’t understand why this requirement was added to the uniform policy.
We don’t think this is a fair requirement because:
1. Nylons in warm weather are extremely uncomfortable. It is unfair to require the girls to wear them.
2. Since it opened, STM has allowed girls to wear socks with their skirts. This was reasonable and the girls were comfortable with this. There is no need to change the policy now.
3. Wearing socks with skirts is the same policy that the other Catholic schools in Champaign follow.
4. If the girls have to wear nylons or tights for PE it will take them longer to change, not to mention it will cost the parents more money as they have to constantly replace nylons that have tears or runs. We already have had to spend money purchasing new skirts, so adding even more expense is unfair.
5. No one wears nylons anymore, so why would we require our girls to wear them?
We believe the STM administration should drop this requirement.

I have been reading through the feedback from students who are already struggling with the heat and the discomfort of these new requirements. The administration remains quiet, but your signatures prove that this policy is completely out of touch with our daily reality.

Watching the numbers climb proves just how tired everyone is of these uncomfortable and costly rules. We need to reach one hundred signatures to ensure the administration understands how many families are pushing for change before school begins.

I think all women will agree that putting on tights/nylons is a struggle and time consuming. Add an hour of running around in PE and having to put then back on, while somewhat sweaty, almost impossible.
Why should the girls be required to keep their legs covered at all times when the boys can wear shorts? It's bad enough we have to buy a new skirt for 1 school year. Now we also have to buy solid covered tights! Please reflect on our shared mission of preparing our children to be adults..
Wearing uniforms already makes us basically look the same and with wearing fashionable socks, it expresses uniqueness in each of us. To me it makes wearing uniforms a little more tolerable. Nylon tights are and will never be comfortable and making us have to wear it everyday is ridiculous.
My daughter is a graduate of STM and she would have Never worn nylons! This is a ridiculous rule! I am an over 50 something, a career women and would never wear a pair of nylons again! Tights or socks are perfect options!!!
honestly, i know you guys want this done but it is just a waste of time no school administration is going to look at a petition that was signed by the students. If the school implemented the rule then they have probably thought of all the pros and cons of this

This new policy of tights and pantyhose seems a little too extreme. If the problem in the past was girls wearing their skirts too short, then their parents should be contacted and they should be sent home to correct the issue.
