In an effort to encourage more efficient laundry practices at Dickinson College and encourage students to air-dry laundry and wash fuller loads of laundry, these students would like to petition to receive a refund for their laundry balance that is not used at the end of each academic semester.

I was just folding some clothes and realized how much leftover credit is sitting on my account which feels like a total waste when we could be using that money for literally anything else. People keep messaging me about their own experiences with these machines and it sounds like the system is just designed to keep our coins forever. I am trying to figure out who even manages the contracts for these dryers because the bureaucracy is honestly exhausting.

I really never thought this would gain so much traction but here we are and people clearly have a lot to say about these laundry fees. It feels like the administration finally has to acknowledge that we are all tired of losing money just because we want to keep our clothes clean.

Honestly it is so annoying that this money just vanishes at the end of the year. I have like 20 bucks left over that I could really use for food.
Finally! Totally agree. If we are trying to be green this is the only way that makes sense.
I just graduated last year, but I had wanted this to be a thing my entire time I was at Dickinson. For a school that prides itself on sustainability it's only logical that students are rewarded for doing their part.
Yes! I suggested this at an Eco-Rep event two years ago (where I attended as a guest), and I feel like this is definitely something the college should look into. If the money can be reallocated into Declining Balance, I especially think there should be no reason for objection.
It doesn't make sense that money is automatically taken from us for laundry- and so much. You can definitely get through the semester with $40 left over. Those who are more mindful of the environment should absolutely get their money back.

Exactly how we feel! The money is important to a lot of students, and it's an easy incentive to get people to do their laundry more efficiently and sustainably.
