The 9th Grade Student Government Association has come to the conclusion that the city of Leesburg needs sidewalks. Specifically, connecting the schools of Lee County. The following are reasons:
Prompt student safety
Reduce the overcrowding of student transfer busses
I am currently compiling our stories and photos to present to the city council members who have been ignoring our requests. Send an email to your local representative today and demand that they prioritize safe walkways between our schools.

As a person who lives off of firetower, I agree that there should be sidewalks for the safety of the students and drivers

Lee County needs to put in sidewalks because in the mornings in heavy traffic, buses and cars are held up by pedestrians and people riding bikes. This would cut down on traffic and increase safety.

Sidewalk would benefit the community greatly, making it safer for kids to commute from school to school without the risk of getting hit by a car as they hug the edge of the road or rolling their ankles while walking in a ditch.

I think Lee county should definitely build sidewalks. When I'm riding the bus home I always see students walking or riding their bike on the road getting home. Lee county needs these mainly for safety, but not just looking out for students. Looking out for everyone because even pedestrians need them to be safe.

The importance of sidewalks is not just anecdotal. In the United States, about 60,000 pedestrians are killed each year.

This could become a good part of Lee County. It would show just how much Lee County is concerned about safety.
