Most permissions slips and other documents use gendered pronouns, which is not only discluding people, but it also is much more inconvenient to read. Here is what would change:

(s)he ---- they

she/he ---- they

s/he ---- they

He or She ---- they

It really is not a big change. Doing this would help people feel more included, along with simplifying permission slips and other documents regarding students.

If this petition gets fifty signatures, the board of education will be contacted. If it gets one hundred signatures, there is a possibility for a meeting with the board of education. Any more signatures, and from there this will be further improved upon.

I have been hearing from so many families who are tired of seeing these outdated forms arrive in their mailboxes. My inbox is full of messages from students who feel ignored by this language and I am working to compile these stories for the board.

Seeing this grow makes me think about how much easier school life could be for my friends who feel erased by outdated forms. The momentum behind this shift shows how many people recognize that these small labels carry real weight.

this is getting out of hand. changing basic english because some kids are confused is a bad idea. stop trying to rewrite everything.

I understand where you're coming from, but a singular they pronoun has been in fashion and gramatically correct since before the eighteen hundreds. Early accounts of the singular they can actually be traced back to the thirteen hundreds. Though it does seem confusing, it is not grammatically changing anything. There is no reason to split gender into two specific groups, especially when its for a simple thing such as permission slips and other documents.

This is a huge change in society. People have been taught a certain grammar for many years. Changing everyone's pronoun into something that is plural is confusing and not everyone should have to change for a minority. There is a difference between acceptance and respect other than changing the grammar of a whole language because of this. Don't get me wrong I understand what you want and respect people that are gender nuetral.

This does not really apply to me. But if it does help others feel better than I will sign it.
