Trans or gender non-conforming students at SAMS might choose to use a different name than their birth name because it aligns better with their gender identity. Whether they use a nickname or completely change their name, we have to be there for them. Hearing a name that doesn't fit them all day long can be stressful and sickening, and with so much of school being online these days, emails and texts all include your name in them. It can be stressful, sickening, and can cause dysphoria for these students. We need to show them that we are there for them! Show your support by signing the petition!

- Unblock deadname removers / create a new extension

The feedback I have received from students this week highlights how pervasive the distress caused by the current digital naming system truly is. I am currently drafting a formal proposal for the administration that outlines how these technical adjustments will improve the daily well-being of our student body.

its so frustrating when the teachers keep calling out the wrong name during roll call. fixing this would make such a huge difference for everyone!!
PLEASE just let us update our names on google classroom. it is not that hard to fix the settings.

Makes total sense - and it would help your teachers who mess up your names all the time because your birth name is right in front of them all the time! We do our best, but we forget sometimes!
