At our last annual town meeting that was held on October X, 2016, the property owners of Frye Island, by a significant margin, voted to keep our Frye Island police force. At the Selectman meeting held on xxx, November xx, 2016, the Board of Selectmen voted to disolve the Frye Island Police Force and to replace it with xxxxx.
This petition is being sent to all owners of Frye Island property. f

Seeing this level of support for our officers proves that the people who actually live here value their safety above all else. This momentum shows that the board cannot simply ignore the vote we already cast.

I was on the call. It took me a minute to figure out what they were doing as I was in such shock! The best part is, the BOS didn't even follow there own public notification policies and procedures! So disappointed! And a bad deal on top of it! The county sheriff will only be on island for 40 hours a week High season only (4 -10 hour shifts thus 3 days with NO COVERAGE) and WE HAVE TO RENT THEM A COTTAGE!!
Why does all this "stuff" happen after most of the property owners have left for the season? Not all of us want to be Maine or Island residents...this is getting old..and nasty.
What happened to all the comments in favor of keeping Rod as Chief of Police for Frye Island that were heard at the Safety Committee, hope the comments were passed along to the Executive Committee, who made the decision to employ Cumberland County? Frye Island may be the laughing stock of Cumberland County, we pay lots of taxes for a 6 month resident Island and now we're going to give them more money!
Providing housing for employees? Pure insanity. We all were under the impression that the police force would remain as it is. While I appreciate everything the board does, this is one issue I do not agree with~ Lot 895
Lot 30. I was there at the town meeting too and it was clear that the existing police department was to be funded. No mention was made for alternatives. It appears that the town administration doesn't believe in democracy.
Office Rod Respectful and Fair My hope was to step on to the Island and enjoy the feeling of going back in time. Now wondering if I will get stopped and harassed by an inexperienced officer (thought we endured this in past years)
We are behind Chief Rod all the way. Frye Island won't find a better Chief than he has been. I hope we'll be able to get our FIPD back.

The democratic ideal of “elected officials” representing the the best interest of the Town rather than personal agenda seems to have disappeared from Frye Island. If the annual meeting votes to keep the FIPD, why isn’t that vote respected? Has anyone in the administration or on the boards been on Island long enough to remember the days before Rod?
