SUPPORT FAYETTE and RALEIGH (WV) GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
The Fayette and Raleigh (WV) Genealogical Society, (FRGS), has been in existence since 1984. Our mission yesterday, today and in the future, is to provide assistance and resources for genealogical research, document and preserve information, and to protect the knowledge and history of the the past.
In 1999, the Fayette County (WV) Library Board agreed to allow us to use a small alcove in the Fayetteville Public Library for the FRGS research materials. For the past 11 years our collection has been available for public use six days a week.
Recently, we were notified to remove all FRGS holdings from the Fayetteville Library by October 1, 2010.
We are very much opposed to their decision. We believe that it is very important that the FRGS research materials continue to be housed at the Fayetteville Public Library, in the county seat, for all who wish to use it.

The Library Board thinks they can just sweep our local history under the rug and expect us to go quietly. I am spending my time digging through their ridiculous excuses and I will expose exactly why they want us gone from the Fayetteville building.

The Fayette County Library Board clearly underestimated how many people care about preserving our history. We have reached a level of support that makes it impossible for them to ignore us in their offices. Stay angry and keep the pressure on these bureaucrats until they reverse this ridiculous eviction order.

Ive used these resources many times. The board needs to rethink this decision asap.
This is ridiculous. The library is the perfect place for these records. Keep them accessible!
My family roots are right here in fayette county. Dont take these records away from the public. People come from all over just to use these books.
My grandmother spent years working on these records. Its a piece of our history and it needs to stay where people can actually get to it.
Where are they supposed to put all that stuff anyway? This is a huge mistake for local history.
