This petition is in support of the Governor granting a pardon and freeing Wendy Sprouse. She is in her 12th year of incarceration for the crime of embezzlement. She took $17,700 all of which has been paid and she is serving a 24.5 year sentence. This length of time truly seems excessive. I mean how messed up is our justice system exactly?? She is a model offender who has never had any infractions, took 8 college courses and maintained a 4.0 GPA, she was a dog handler for 3 years and then got her Cosmetology License in 2019 and was the tutor and clerk for Cosmo at VCCW until she was shipped for "bed management" in 2019. She is now the sole cosmetologist in CVCU. She has accomplished so many more achievements than this, but they can not all be listed as to keep the length of this petition down. At this point, there is no good reason to keep her in prison, she is simply being warehoused at the expense of tax payers. On average it costs $21,299.00 a year to house an offender in Virginia. The state has already paid $255,588 for her and will cost another $255,588 if the cost doesn't go up bringing the total to over half a million dollars. She is not a threat to society so lets think of releasing her and letting the Governor know that we all agree. If you are in support of this petition, please, please sign. Thank you for your time.

The days keep dragging on and the silence from the Governor's office is heavy. I am exhausted by the cold calculation of keeping someone locked away when the debt is long paid but I am not walking away from this yet.

Windy lost her mom and dad while incarcerated. She recently was found positive of covid 19 and has since recovered from her ordeal. The birth of a grandchild, and soon she will miss out on her daughters marriage. I think she has suffered enough for a non violent crime. Do we value money more than a person's life? People commit murder and get less time than this woman.
Please release windy a none violent offender shouldn't recieve a sentence that long look at our tax paying dollar over 253,00 so far if she killed someone I'd see a sentence that great but forc17,000 get real I've lost hope in our system all together sincerely a hard working tax paying, fed up nurse!!
Punishment should fit the crime! She is a non-violent offender and her sentence term is ludicrous. She has now paid her restitution in full and is a model prisoner. Please take this opportunity to let a non-violent person show what they can do with a second chance.
I was her roomate for 2 years at Goochland Correctional Center. Wendy was a awesome honest very nive and inconsiderate to all she came in contact with always willing to help people who needed help. Let her goes she has done enough time she wasnt. Violent person and neither was her crime. Thank you.
Yes . I know her. The crazy thing my X roommate in Charlottesville was murdered in Charlottesville cut up in pieces Christopher Henderson and disposed of and is only doing 25 years. Really Wendy Spouse should of been out of prison long ago. The problem judges get personal in the sentencing which should not be allowed.
Everyone please try and write DOC as well as The Marshall Project, and the new VP Lethia Hammond at the Va Parole board. they are supposed to help the governor decide these thngs and media outlets say they will help her more.
I can sit here and reiterate all the good things said about Wendy, as they are ALL true, but the real issue at hand is the amount of time that has been given to Wendy....has anyone deciding her case actually sit and thought about each day that has passed of her sentence? Have you thought about Wendy each holiday (Christmas, Thanksgivings, son or daughter birthday etc.) and really thought about it. Now, every one of us humans has made mistakes. Some of us have made bigger mistakes and got caught. So to the person deciding her case, have you ever made a mistake? Have you ever had an addiction? Or loved someone with an addiction? Addiction doesn’t have to be drugs it can be anything, it can be money. Have you ever done something you absolutely know is wrong but your addiction just over powers you to the point where you justify every wrong action? I believe that every one of us have the ability to recover from such. I personally am recovering from a drug addiction that took 20 years of my life and I committed prescription fraud countless times. I got out of jail from 7 charges and 2 weeks later violated my probation with again another charge. I was give a chance to recover and I did just that. Isn’t Wendy’s life just as valuable? Isn’t her family just as deserved? Can you sit for a minute and imagine how you would feel is something (anything) that you see as a flaw in your life, getting you 22 and 1/2 years in prison...... imagine the daily anguish of knowing you will not get out until your 60. I want the men and women who have any authority in Wendy’s case to put yourself in her shoes just a week and I guarantee you will see it differently. The words I live by today are “Every action has a reaction, good or bad”. I hope anyone reading this can do what you can to help Wendy. It’s one thing to sit in your comfy home and think “she deserves it, or that would ever happen to me or my kids”. Think again God has a way of doing things in our lives that are unexplainable

I’ve known Windy since high school. She is a good person with a great family. She committed a crime and has MORE than paid her dues for it. She was a good mother before being put in prison and I’m certain her absence has been difficult for her children. She now has grandchildren that she could be a wonderful gift to. She deserves to be pardoned and freed!
