The Downtown Renaissance in Binghamton can be credited to the Artists and arts organizations making downtown a vibrant destination. The recent City of Binghamton’s extended Pay to Park hours, and the general shortage of parking, especially for elderly and disabled actually discourages people from attending the very popular Gorgeous Washington Art Walk. The art galleries and businesses downtown are hearing many complaints from their patrons. Therefore, the undersigned are petitioning the City of Binghamton:

1. That parking be free in downtown Binghamton and nearby areas during the Art Walk,

2. That parking be allowed on both sides of downtown streets,

3. That the trolley connect the Art Walk with parking at a remote site such as the Stadium or the Binghamton Plaza.

I spent the evening talking to shop owners who are worried that their regulars are finally giving up on First Friday due to these parking costs. It is heartbreaking to watch the vibrant scene we built start to fade because of a simple lack of access for our neighbors with mobility issues.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting off my shoulders because I know how hard my friends at the local galleries have been struggling. It is clear now that the community refuses to watch our downtown culture get choked out by parking fees.

Free parking should always be available for any Binghamton events. There is also a desperate need for parking which should be addressed. Lack of parking deters people from going to the shops and restaurants downtown and to the large chain stores instead.

Free parking during First Friday Art Walk...a small token to encourage even more people to enjoy downtown Binghamton and say thanks to the arts community.

Paying for parking disincentivises downtown exploration - let's keep culture accessible

I would definitely be there if there more often if there were free parking or the trolley. In fact, if there was a trolley running from State St. to downtown a few days a week, I would be going to Binghamton a lot more than I do now. Parking is the only thing keeping me away

They should do the trolley or BC transit from Stadium parking lot every weekend. There are so many great businesses downtown that would benefit from this!

At the Cooperative Gallery this is a big problem. We depend on people visiting galleries on First Friday. Many of them have mobility issues so a long walk is not always possible.

Downtown art is revitalizing Binghamton night life. For those of us who need a car to get there, parking is essential.
