The Downtown Renaissance in Binghamton can be credited to the Artists and arts organizations making downtown a vibrant destination. The recent City of Binghamton’s extended Pay to Park hours, and the general shortage of parking, especially for elderly and disabled actually discourages people from attending the very popular Gorgeous Washington Art Walk. The art galleries and businesses downtown are hearing many complaints from their patrons. Therefore, the undersigned are petitioning the City of Binghamton:
1. That parking be free in downtown Binghamton and nearby areas during the Art Walk,
2. That parking be allowed on both sides of downtown streets,
3. That the trolley connect the Art Walk with parking at a remote site such as the Stadium or the Binghamton Plaza.
Free parking should always be available for any Binghamton events. There is also a desperate need for parking which should be addressed. Lack of parking deters people from going to the shops and restaurants downtown and to the large chain stores instead.
