Help us fix the water fountain in the Bennett Park Playground! The fountain overflows, causing a messy, hazardous puddle I call Lake Bennett in the middle of the path to the subway. The fountain overflows because it is not connected to a waste drain! Eventually this situation will necessitate a very expensive rebuild of the path.
In New York it was not uncommon for water fountains not to have a plumbed drain. This situation is called a dry well, which is basically a hole for the water. Over time, this hole gets filled up, filled in with dirt, and stops functioning. When the bath houses were built the situation was not remedied. So there is a waste pipe located nearby, and it's a simple fix to hook up the water fountain to this system. However the Parks Department told me this is a Capital Expenditure and as such needs to be included in a future budget.
Now is the time to let our voices be heard, and save a much more expensive fix in the future! Thank you for signing the petition, and we won't stop until the water fountain is fixed!!

The Parks Department maintains that this project requires a full capital budget allocation despite the obvious and growing hazard on our path. I am drafting a formal request to our local representative to bring this to their attention immediately. Call your council member today and demand they prioritize this simple pipe connection before our path is destroyed.

We hit a new level of momentum that the Parks Department cannot ignore. Text the link to three neighbors right now and tell them to demand this simple drainage fix before the path sustains permanent damage.

Please fix the water fountain in Bennett Park. This is basic maintenance and ignoring the problem is causing potential harm to the children, parents and all other individuals enjoying the park. Especially now that we are coming into the summer months (and last years outbreaks of legionnaires disease), backed up, germ infested, free standing water must not be ignored.
Let's put our voices together and get this fixed! Thanks to Friends of Bennett Park for helping us get this done!

Walking past that muddy mess every morning is getting so old. Just hook it to the drain already so we can actually walk to the train without getting soaked!
